State (State Theater, Falls Church VA)

"State" has been chosen as a semifinalist in the 17th Annual "Best of Plein Air" Art Show of the Laguna Plein Air Painters Association (LAPAPA) - online exhibition and sale - March 8-14

This is the second time I've painted the State Theater in Falls Church VA. If I return to a subject, it's from a different angle ... with a new idea.  Taking the view facing the other direction gave me a chance to really capture the colors of Fall leaves. Have you noticed the dramatic difference in light facing one direction or another? It's pretty amazing!

Painting "State" was pretty far from peaceful as I set my easel up right by the side of the road. (That's not a suggestion.)  Passing by were fire trucks and ambulances - quite a few times - at screeching noise levels.  So, if there's a third time for this subject ... it will be  from farther away. Yikes!
