Blue in the Garden

I painted this scene during an outing of the Washington Society of Landscape Painters (I'm a juried member) to River Farm in Alexandria VA.  The property at River Farm was owned by George Washington and now is the home of the American Horticultural Society.  It's gorgeous and it was a joy to spend part of the day with fellow WSLP artists. So nice!

The "blue" in the garden is provided by Vicki Vidal who had chosen some blue irises as her subject. I love the combination of those touches of blue with the lush green of the lawn. That's a tough combination to beat.

My paintings convey the feeling of being there that moment (actually hours or days) in time. This day was about (to me) the comraderie of other like-minded souls ... in an inspirational place.

This piece was exhibited with the Washington Society of Landscape Painters Exhibition "The Painted Garden" at River Farm from July 9-November 20, 2023.
