Sunday Shopping

I painted version one of Sunday Shopping plein air at the grand marché in Aix-en-Provence in the South of France this past June. That iteration was missing the vitality of the market there that I love. Perhaps it was because that day was too hot to handle and getting out of the direct sun was my #1 priority. Seeking shade messed up my view -- but I fixed that trouble back at home in my studio.

I played with paint after experimenting with a new tool for me -- Procreate software on my nifty new ipad. Using a photo taken of my plein air sketch from the market, I "finger painted" on the ipad -- changing the colors of the umbrellas and intensifying the sense of light.  I didn't reference photos -- which helped me paint how the market feels. Then, I used that newly ipad painted reference to change the one on canvas. The process was fun and I love the end result. Pretty exciting!
