Seine Serenade

Even though I painted this in the studio, my head and heart were sure in Paris. I'd painted a 12" x 24" piece plein air from about this spot while there last year -- so at home, it seemed nightfall was just a short time away. Painting larger is such a treat, too -- freeing, fun -- and even better at placing us right there inside the canvas.

The perfect frame for it is already picked out and I'll add a photograph of it in it shortly. It's this soft, classy, traditional gold with touches of dusty blue as the perfect complement to this piece.

Sunset on the Seine, plein air painting, private collection

When painting the earlier piece on location, I knew that a larger version, depicting the magic of the setting a little closer to nightfall was in my future. Such a treat to get around to it.

It will be premiering in my studio at the Artists' Atelier -- still wet -- for the Great Falls Studio Tour (VA) on October 17&18, 2026 -- while also appearing here online. Photos are not capturing how beautiful this piece is. It has so much depth and atmosphere. Like living in Paris every day.
