Loved being able to capture the Washington DC Tidal Basin cherry blossoms as they peaked ... en plein air. It's a not-to-be-missed magical scene and it was fun capturing some of my fellow celebrants.
I made two trips to the Tidal Basin in Washington DC to paint this one canvas. First trip was much lonelier as the blossoms hadn't yet even thought about opening. (Oops.) Then, I returned during the cherry blossoms real peak to finish this -- and found LOTS of company.
Supposedly there are an awful lot of photos of me in my smock.
Photographer Michael Wolfe not only took some wonderful photos of me that day -- he composed a poem and posted the combination on his blog post "Sakura Symphony: The artist's springtime dance." Read it here and enjoy seeing more of his work on the site. Such a great guy! See why I love being out there?
"Pillows of Pink" was exhibited at Spiralis Gallery in Easton MD as part of the Washington Society of Landscape Painters Group Show spread among many galleries.
