Night in the Neighborhood

This has been the rare winter in Northern Virginia, that the snow actually stuck around long enough to capture it. (Other years, I had to race to my easel right after it fell to capture it before it did a disappearing act.)

I love the view down the street in the neighborhood -- but rarely see it from up above -- as this is from my husband's office. Considering it was bitterly cold out, the bird's-eye view from the warm of inside was perfect. A challenge was painting in the dark, since as soon as the lights were on, I could no longer see out the window. A tiny bit of light on my palette was all that would work. (I think the painting is much better because of having so little light.)

I love this piece. Hope you do too.
