Room on the Patio (L'Auberge Chez Francois)

This is one of two paintings created for the Paint Great Falls (VA) 2026 plein air competition. This is a favorite spot to paint and so it was an easy choice. The first day L'Auberge Chez Francois was closed (it was a Tuesday). The second day it was another scorcher so no one was occupying the tables and chairs I'd sketched in. Still, I could fill them -- given all the times I'd been there when they were ... and borrowing from those guests seated a little farther away.

My studio at the Artists' Atelier (that I share with six artist friends and studiomates) is in Great Falls VA. While I paint many places far and wide, I also love capturing scenes from all around this wonderful town -- especially in the Great Falls Village Centre during the Summer Concert Series.
